Ashover Working Men's Club

Ashover Working Men's Club and Institute annual meeting held on Monday was attended by Messrs. J. E. Toyne (treasurer), S. Weston (secretary), Jack Norton, Jim Norton, H. Adlington, W. Stone, C. Dimbleby, F. Betts, S. Hopkinson, F. Carline and H. Revell. The treasurer reported a balance in hand of 6 2s 1d, which was considered very satisfactory in view of the exceptional expenditure on repairs and purchase of crockery. The secretary reported that membership had increased from 22 to 36. Officers appointed were :- President, the Rev. J. B. Nodder; vice-presidents, Major T. E. Grayson, Messrs. G. Kenning, W. Hunt, W. Scott, P. E. Crossland, and T. P. Haslam; treasurer, Mr. J. E. Toyne; secretary, Mr. S. Weston; assistant secretary, Mr. W. Stone; billiard's marker, Mr. H. Revell; auditors, Messrs. N. Olorenshaw and D. Taylor; committee, Messrs. A. W. H. Bowler, H. Revell, Jim Norton, Jack Norton, C. Dimbleby, E. Holland, C. Adlington, H. Adlington, and F. Betts.
Reference was made by the treasurer to the death of Mr. S. J. Marriott, who had been a member and an auditor for many years. It was decided to hold whist drives during the winter months.
